There are some real gems in this collection of 39 short stories. Sound cohesive stories with surprise twists and well polished writing. Each author has progressed toward excellent storytelling and honed craft. The progression is apparent as some stories seem like earlier writings that were skewed toward practicing a specific element of short story writing at the expense of good flow. Too many cliches and trite phrases used to connect disparate elements. I recognize that pattern as one each of us repeats during our emerging-as-writers phase. I would liked to have seen each author revisit those earlier stories and bring them up to the standard of the gems.
A great group effort. Well worth the read.

The Cream In My Coffee edition by Ken Howkins Barry Pope Norma Luxton Susan White Barbara Brown Dan Boylan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A very honest and interesting collection of stories from new(ish) writers. I particularly enjoyed Dan Boylan's effort and would recommend the book to readers who enjoy differing styles of writing.
Where else could you find 39 different, yet distict short stories in one place. The authors are new but the stories were like the first chapters leading to a book worth reading.
Some of the stories had a deal of humour in them and all of them seemed to have an ironic twist in the ending.
Well written, well done!
Fun read! I have recommended "The Cream in My Coffee" to friends who are writers and many readers. As a writer myself PISAQ PIPELINE, A World-Heritage Mystery, I would love to be part of a writer's group like these members of the Fareham Group. I sense a real chemistry among them. The stories are varied, and the voice of each author is unique. The stories are well crafted and all have a twist or two...sometimes even more. I wish each of these was just the first chapters of novels. I enjoyed the entire collection. As much as I hate to play favorites, I especially liked Barbara Brown's "Soldier Boy" and Dan Boylan's "Seize the Day". I look forward to another anthology from the original Fareham Writers Group.
